Addendum:
If you scroll further back through the results lists from this period, you'll find many bold private projects that have been completely forgotten and of which hardly any photographs exist today. Günther Knippschild's Opel Kadett C GT/E in Group 5 trim is one such example. Widened with Zakspeed parts from the Ford Escort, the coupe first appeared in March 1981 at the DRM opening round in Zolder.

The small team from near Heidelberg had a hard time getting the spectacular C-Coupe running in practice at its premiere in Belgium. The usual teething issues of an enthusiastic private project in a field of highly equipped and factory-supported Group 5 cars. All the more courageous was the idea of ​​fielding this wide-body Kadett, an absolute exotic, in the German Racing Championship, which, after years of factory arms races and a massive cost explosion, had reached the end of its heyday in 1981 – much to the regret of its many fans.
